Anita Gurung: The First Child Supported by MySmallHelp
Every great journey begins with a single step. For MySmallHelp, that journey began in 2007 with a young girl named Anita Gurung, the very first child to receive educational sponsorship through our programme.
Today, Anita’s story stands as a powerful testament to the life-changing impact of education, perseverance, and the kindness of those who believe in giving children the opportunity to succeed.
A Journey of Hope
When Anita joined the MySmallHelp sponsorship programme, she was studying in Grade 6. Coming from a financially challenged background, continuing her education was uncertain. However, thanks to the generous support of sponsors and well-wishers, she was able to remain in school and pursue her dreams with confidence.
From an early age, Anita showed remarkable determination, discipline, and a genuine passion for learning. She embraced every opportunity and worked tirelessly to build a brighter future.
Reaching New Heights
After successfully completing her school education, Anita continued her academic journey with the same dedication. Her passion for helping others inspired her to pursue a career in social work.
She enrolled at Ganpat University, Gujarat, India, where she successfully completed her Master of Social Work (MSW). Studying abroad broadened her knowledge, strengthened her leadership skills, and deepened her commitment to serving disadvantaged communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, her studies were disrupted, and she had to return to Nepal. Despite these unexpected challenges, she continued her education through online classes and remained committed to achieving her goal. Her resilience and determination enabled her to successfully complete her Master’s degree.
Giving Back to Society
Today, Anita is putting her education into practice by working with Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) Nepal, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to community development, participation, leadership, and human capacity building across Nepal. Through her work, she contributes to programmes that empower communities and promote sustainable social change, perfectly reflecting the values she developed throughout her educational journey.

Being the first child supported by MySmallHelp makes Anita’s journey especially meaningful. She has become an inspiration to hundreds of children who have followed in her footsteps, proving that with opportunity, determination, and consistent support, dreams can become reality.
